Primary lithium batteries and lithium-ion batteries both use lithium-based chemistry, but they are designed for different operating conditions. A primary lithium battery is non-rechargeable and optimized for long storage, low self-discharge, and extended service life. A lithium-ion battery is rechargeable and better suited to equipment that requires frequent energy cycling.
